Dunn’s River Falls and Park

If you ever plan on visiting St. Ann, Jamaica, you must add Dunn’s River Falls to your itinerary. Dunn’s River Falls is a renowned waterfall situated a short distance from Ocho Rios, St. Ann. It is a major tourist attraction that receives thousands of local and overseas visitors each year. Across the world, geologists frequently describe Dunn’s River Falls as a “living and growing phenomenon” because it continuously replenishes itself from travertine rock deposits found in its cascading spring water. It is also said to be the only one of its kind in the Caribbean.
For this reason, we had to visit and experience what the excitement is all about. The commute to the location was spectacular – so much to see, stop and do along the way. On entering, we immediately noticed that ample parking was provided for the many visitors. Clean restrooms fully stocked with toileteries were also available for patrons. To get to the beach and the bottom of the falls, we descended a flight of steps that followed the path of the falls. Seeing the climbers making their way to the top of the falls, we could not contain our excitement and trodded down the elevation even faster to get our chance to make some memories. Upon reaching the beach, we noticed that chairs were arranged along the beach for our comfort. Secure lockers were also provided at no additional cost for storage of our items while we climb the falls.
No need to panic! It is a treat to climb the glorious 600 feet falls. Once you reach the top of Mother Nature’s wonderful creation, the view is breathtaking. On both sides of the falls, lush vegetation beautifies as well as provide shade for our trek to the top of the falls. Escorted by a tour guide, the hike has climbers holding hands while they traverse to the peak. You will get the opportunity to stop along the way to take a dip in the many pools amid the falls as well as to take pictures and make short videos. The tour guide will also provide you with bits and pieces of this attraction’s rich history, as it is believed to be the location of the legendary battle of “Las Chorreras” fought in 1657 near Dunn’s River Falls by the English and the Spanish Expeditionary Force from Cuba for ownership of the island. Other than climbing the falls, Dunn’s River Falls and Park boasts other amenities to include a water park for the kids, a pristine beach into which the falls flow and on-site restaurants cooking up delicious local and international favourites. A Gift shop is also on location where souvenirs and other items may be purchased.
Dunn’s River Falls is open every day including weekends and public holidays from 8:30a.m. to 4:00pm. The cost to enter the facilities can be seen below:
